LizardSkin™ Ceramic Insulation
Typical Uses
LizardSkin™ Ceramic Insulation is used by custom car, street rod, race car and truck builders as
well as RV owners to reduce heat and noise transfer and seal unexposed body surfaces. When
applied under fender wells, it can help prevent “starring” from stones and gravel. It is best applied
with our special spray gun to a clean and dry primed or painted rust-free surface. Typical
applications include fire walls, floor pans, transmission tunnels, doors, hoods, truck lids, under
headliners, inside fenders, panel van walls and more. It may be painted if desired, with no loss of
thermal or acoustic performance.
Important: Manufacturers Recommendations
For best results, LizardSkin must be applied with a recommended spray gun/nozzle at 50-70 psi air
pressure. For specific recommendations, consult product label. Brushing is recommended only for
small area touch up.
Typical Tools Required:
LizardSkin™ Super Pro spray gun kit
Variable speed 3/8”-1/2” electric drill
Box cutter or knife
Compressed air source: 60-100 psi @ 5 cfm(min)
Access to water for cleanup
Surface Preparation
Surface to be coated must be clean, dry and free of rust or other corrosion. Mask areas not intended
to be sprayed since coating will adhere to any unmasked area. Carbon steel surfaces require
primer. Aluminum and stainless steel do not need primers but must be clean and dry.
Product Preparation/Mixing
LizardSkin™ should be mixed thoroughly using a power drill with the mixer paddle.
Open the container using the tear tab on the side of the top.
Pull tab and remove lid.
Mix LizardSkin™ using variable speed drill and stir paddle bit at low rpm (300 or less) to a smooth
consistency. (Normally 2-4 min.)
CAUTION: Stirring product at high speed will alter composition and dramatically reduce coating
effectiveness.
Note: Stop mixing once a smooth consistency is reached. Additional mixing may damage
insulating particles and reduce insulation effectiveness. Slight separation of coating is normal
due to temperature changes and natural settling tendencies. Some additional mixing time may
be needed if separation has occurred.
Clean stir paddle in water bucket immediately after mixing. Replace lid on bucket until ready to spray.
LizardSkin™ SC – Sound Control Formula
Typical Uses
LizardSkin™ SC is being used by custom car, street rod, truck builders and RV owners who want to
reduce unwanted noise and/or enhance the sound of their high end audio systems. It is best applied by
special spray gun to a clean and dry primed or painted rust-free surface. Typical applications include
fire walls, floor pans, transmission tunnels, doors, hoods, trunk lids, under headliners, inside fenders,
panel van walls and other areas which generate vibration and noise. It may be painted if desired, with
no loss of acoustic performance.
Important: Manufacturers Recommendations
For best results, LizardSkin™ SC should be applied with a recommended spray gun/nozzle at 60-100
psi air pressure. For specific recommendations, consult product label. Brush application is
recommended only for small areas or touch up.
Applying LizardSkin™ Ceramic Insulation & LizardSkin™ SC
For maximum sound control and insulation performance, both LizardSkin coatings may be used, but it
is important that LizardSkin™ SC always be applied FIRST. When used in tandem, LizardSkin™ SC
should be applied at least 12 hours prior to application of LizardSkin™ Ceramic Insulation. If ambient
temperature is b
below 70ºF, allow 24 hours between coats.

Using the Pro Spray Gun Kit
For Small Area Applications
Use standard one-quart cup supplied with spray gun. Cup should be filled directly after mixing the
product.
For Large Area Applications
Use the “Super Pro” spray kit attachment hose set to siphon material directly out of the LizardSkin™
container
To prepare spray gun:
*Use wrench to remove pickup tube from bottom of the spray gun.
*Attach 5/8” hose barb fitting to bottom of the spray gun and tighten snugly.
*Slide hose over the fitting/metal standoff tube.
*Using box cutter or knife, cut an “X” in center of plastic lid to accommodate tube. If desired, attach
clamp to hose below lid to hold siphon tube to bottom of pail.
Spraying with the Super Pro Gun
Attach air hose to gun with quick connect fitting and adjust air pressure to 50-70 psi . (Air course
must deliver minimum 5 CFM.) The orifice nozzle in front of spray gun adjusts feed rate and spray
pattern. Tightening the nozzle will reduce flow of material; loosening will increase flow. Increased
flow may require additional air flow/pressure. Test spray prior to applying
Tips For Best Results: Higher air pressure produces a finer pattern, but pressures over 100 psi may
prematurely dry and damage the coating as it is being applied. Spray LizardSkin™ evenly holding
gun 6-9” away from surface. Avoid runs. It is best to spray a light tack coat and allow to set before
building thickness with additional coats. LizardSkin™ dulls as it dries. Test dryness by placing
thumb on coating and turning 90°. If coating sticks, additional drying time is needed. Preferred wet
thickness is 0.010-015” (10-15 mils or 0.25-0.5mm).
Clean Up IMMEDIATELY
When full coat is applied, pull tube and hose out of material bucket and immediately place in bucket
of clean water, triggering until spraying clean water. Remove nozzle/orifice assembly and clean gun
and nozzle with soap and water.
Drying Time
Additional coats maybe applied when surface is dry to the touch. (Use thumb test as described
above.) Drying time is dependant on ambient and surface temperatures. The hotter the surface or
ambient temperature, the faster the dry time. Allow to cure 24 hours at 70º F (21º C.) before sanding
or other finishing. DO NOT apply LizardSkin™ at temperatures below 60°F (15°C.)
Coverage
One gallon of LizardSkin™ SC - Sound Control Formula will cover 50 square feet at .020” wet
thickness on flat surfaces.
